TESTED: EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 vs. Ultra. Best large portable power station in 2024?
The original Delta Pro blew everyone’s mind because it was the first power station that could seriously replace large gas generators with its massive output and expansion. It was so popular it broke Kickstarter’s record for the most-funded project of all time but that was in 2021 and a lot has happened since then.
The new Delta Pro 3 is a big re-design but is it good enough to keep the top spot in the large portable power station market? In this video, I’ll cover the top 6 upgrades in this new version, compare it to the larger Ultra, and cover my real world testing.

    This is the first review that mentioned the previous Delta pro products and interoperability. I have the original smart home panel. Any info if you can that with the new delta pro 3? I have a 3 AC unit with a soft start and unless it’s not connected to the smart panel, it doesn’t seem to be able to run that. (I’m not confident my electrician connected it the smart panel)

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker 14 годин тому

      It's cool they support the older batteries for folks that invested in that system. I'm not sure about the original smart panel but if your unit is 3 ton with soft start the bigger inverter in the Pro 3 should run it because mine would work with one without the soft start. I would notice it would overload periodically because I'd also have a fridge, air handlers, etc. on it and if those were surging, it would push it over the limit.

    Rather than an either or question, I would carry the mini ratchet plus the pen. Adds two more double bits and a lot more extra functionality. I am always looking for ideas how to store bits efficiently and functionally. I even tried empty old plastic pens. But those tend to be longer than 12cms and therefore too long for my pouch. I currently prefer to us "short" / stubby single 1/4 inch bits. Those are 18mm long rather than the normal 25. Two short ones are probably a little longer than the short double sided bits, but I can use "shallower" bit drivers ike the 5mm hex to 1/4 inch bit converter by PB Swiss Tools.

    You also have to look at when the delta 2 came out... over a year ago... They (Ecoflow) are getting ready to release the Delta 3 lineup... My Main gripe with the DJI is the accessory list that you have to go through... seams like every drone battery has a special fast charge cable you need to buy if you want that feature... Also, what is the problem with having 120v outlets on the back? I have never wished my TV had its outlet on the front... that being said, I didn't mind when my Delta 2 had them on the back as well... less clutter. I think for a first swing at a PPS they did really good... but in this market you need to cover all the bases to be great. there is a lot of competition in the space... and to leave things out, make you by accessories to do things like solar charge it... and not having an app... those things might hurt them.

    I'm currently renting an apartment on 2nd floor with access to the roof that gets direct sunlight for most of the afternoon. I was thinking of placing those solar panels over the roof, wire it with a USB C cable through the window and place Anker 737 on my desk where I can use it to power my laptop, light, phone, (items that can be powered through usb) when I come home from work. For anyone who's done this, is this a feasible project/worth the hassle to cut down on my electrical bill?

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker 3 дні тому

      I’d suggest getting a 100w glass solar panel since that’s meant to stay in the elements and will give you more power. USC isn’t waterproof rated so a panel with MC4 connectors is better. I’d go with a small power station from Ecoflow or Bluetti for your case

    I've gone on a similar journey that you just documented- I was trying to avoid buying the Wera Toolcheck Plus and replace it with cheaper items. I bought many of the same tools you tried out in your video. I still ended up buying the Toolcheck Plus and couldn't be happier with it. It's that all-in-one kit design that really makes it special. You can drop it in a cargo pocket and you'll have most tools you need to fix most things. I agree the Wiha kit with Hazet driver and Makita sockets is better money wise, but I think it only really beats Wera with price. It's inconvenient to carry all three pieces and although I own and use the Hazet driver myself, I don't think it beats the convenience of the Toolcheck kit. Yes if you have a big project where you will be using a tool extensively, then get full sized tools that are meant for the job. But if you need tools from a small kit to do quick repairs, Toolcheck plus is really a premium set of tools in a convenient package.

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker 5 днів тому

      Yeah, I agree. My conclusion was the ToolCheck Plus is actually hard to beat for its convenience and quality. I personally have been enjoying the Wiha bit set and Wiha Centrodrive handle because it’s incredibly solid so that is maximum utility but more pieces to manage

    Interesting enough video except I didn't really understand the bit where you said you don't support buying cheap knock offs instead of American made knives, except to get a feel for them before buying the real thing. You had already said just before that, that you couldn't justify the price of a real bug out and yet you included the knock off in your kit which suggests you are happy to keep using the knock off going forward. When calculating the kit price you even emphasised the fact that the bug out costs too much to even bother adding up the cost of your kit with the real knife included.

      Spending $180 is a lot so I think it’s a good idea to see if that type/size knife will actually work for your everyday carry. I, for example, haven’t been carrying that knockoff because I’ve wanted something lighter and smaller now that it’s summer so I’m glad I didn’t buy a Bugout. If I end up carrying it again in the fall, I’ll probably get the real deal if it earns it spot in my pocket. You never know what will actually be comfortable and useful until you use it day to day so if you can prototype it cheaply, it’s a good idea

    Good tools are well worth it. I've got some machinist tools that I got from my grandfather the oldest ones being close to 100 years old now. They'll likely go to my granddaughter since she's shown aptitude with the mill and lathe, and with a little care and luck, they'll be good for another hundred years after that.

    I just love your videos. I learn so much. Thank you!! I also wanted to tell you that the same guy who designed the Lander made the Civivi Sendy. I have it in drop point (68g) but it also comes in a spey blade (74g). It's super satisfying with a back flipper, liner lock, Nitro V steel and deep carry clip. It also comes with tweezers and a toothpick! It pairs great with a 58mm Victorinox with the retractable pen, nail file, scissors and cap lifter/Phillips (the Manager) or even the 91mm Companion.

      That’s a good rec, thanks! I’m a big fan of the Rambler/Manager, working on a video on smaller tools

      @@todd.parker This may be too large for your kit and/or you may have moved on to Pen-based scewdrivers, but I really like the aluminum 4" Titan swivel ratchet 1/4 hex bit driver paired with the Steinwhale stubby bit extender & kit. The additional torque, reach and adjustability earn its additional size for me. YMMV. FWIW Titan does make a steel version that is even smaller called the Nano. It's 2.25" long if you are willing to sacrifice some reach and torque.

    I use a Chapman set and the 1/4 drive socket set I have had for 20 years. I bought that little Wiha bit driver set because it looks and feels higher quality, but in practice it drove me crazy because it was hard to use without accidentally flipping the direction switch and driving the fittings back in the wrong direction.... So I'm back to using the Chapman.

      You know, I’ve struggled with the switch on that rachet too. That’s the one annoyance I have with the Wiha set, thought it was just me

    My prinary tool i use daily is my Milwaukee 6" diagonal pliers. Theyre the best, and after 25+ years of daily driving diagonal pliers everyone should look at the Milwaukee ones

    I’m going to go out on a limb and say the wera kit being combined into one kit and the easy access to all tools is definitely worth the $6 you save on your alternative kit. Great video!

    Can the device charge via USB-C INPUT? (the delta 2 could not, though Anker's unit could).

      No. In my experience PD charging is usually only offered on smaller power stations less than 1kwh. This would take 40+ hours to charge via USB-C!

    I install machinery and have gone through two of the Icon sets in 6 months, each time the ratchet broke. I've had the WERA for 18 months and it's holding up well.
